Grateful Nation Montana was formed for the specific purpose of facilitating college educations for the children of soldiers killed while on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Working with a combination of public and private resources, Grateful Nation links eligible students with the financial resources and non-monetary support they will need to have a successful college experience.
Grateful Nation currently focuses solely on providing these resources and support to Montana military families. To date, 43 soldiers from Montana have been killed in these conflicts, leaving a total of 38 children behind.
We target both the financial and educational needs of these children. Even with sufficient financial resources in place, the road to a successful college education may not be assured for these students, who face many hurdles growing up without a parent.
We also host an Annual Freedom Run in Bigfork, Montana on July 4th. All profits from the race registration go directly to the Grateful Nation Montana scholarship fund. Our 12th Annual Freedom Run this year saw more than 600 participants! See our Facebook page for more details…
Grateful Nation Montana has partnered with the Children of Fallen Patriots (CFP) foundation. In addition to Grateful Nation Montana’s original mission, now in partnership with CFP we have the ability to support our Grateful Nation Montana eligible kids who choose to pursue their education outside of Montana. When you give to the Grateful Nation Montana scholarship fund your gift will be administered by CFP and will be used only for the benefit of our Grateful Nation Montana eligible children.
We recently updated our Links page to reference Help.Org’s resource page on substance abuse rehab for veterans. If you are a veteran who struggles with substance abuse, you can receive a variety of services for free from the VA including help detoxing, treatment in facilities, individual or group therapy, medications, and other services. Help.org have compiled information to walk you through each step of the process – from learning about substance abuse treatment programs to accessing treatment. They also provide additional resources, hotlines, and funding programs to supplement or help make treatment possible.
Grateful Nation has been featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Fox & Friends, NBC Montana and National Public Radio.
